People with Disabilities

  • The roads on the campsite are compacted limestone.  It is possible to use a wheelchair although not ideal in very wet weather.  The river banks are not appropriate for wheelchairs and the exit at the end of the campsite is awkward, even for able-bodied folk!  With the ever-changing river levels, it’s pretty difficult to make a stable path in this area.
  • Access to the washblocks is possible (up gentle ramps).  There are facilities for disabled users in both buildings.  We took advice from disabled users before installing the equipment we have.  Access to the washing-up sinks is difficult and there is not much space to manoeuvre a wheelchair in the laundry area.
  • The shop, restaurant and bar are accessible to wheelchair users although the toilet in the bar is up and over an annoying step (the mechanism for the mill wheel which we cannot move).
  • It is not possible to access the pool without assistance as there is a foot bath.  We have purchased some new steps which make it easier to get into the pool, which is nonetheless deep with no handrail.
  • In the nine years that we have been here, we have never had a blind camper and so we don’t feel it necessary to provide information in Braille.
  • For families travelling with a person with mental disabilities, the campsite is quite well laid-out but the river is not fenced off and we can only recommend constant supervision of anyone with a tendency to wander off.
  • We are happy to allocate flat pitches near the washblocks to anyone who requests this facility.
  • We are also happy to listen to any comments from people with experience in these matters, and implement changes and improvements where possible.
  • Finally, please let us know if you need any additional help during your stay-bon vacances!
